Medical School

Resources For Overall Content

Boards and Beyond

  • What: Short and dense videos that are perfect for all the high-yield information you need to know
  • Why: A great resource for students who prefer to skip lectures and self-teach material instead
  • When: Most helpful for year 1/2 didactics and Step 1 studying. May also be used to review material on an as-need basis during clerkships.

Pathoma

  • What: Great for longer “lecture-esque” videos that go into more depth on concepts as opposed to high-yield facts.
  • Why: May be used to supplement Boards and Beyond or in-house lectures for better understanding a certain topic.
  • When: Most helpful for year 1/2 didactics and Step 1 studying.

Sketchy Medical

  • What: Uses picmonics to help you memorize all high yield facts for pharmacology, microbiology, and pathology
  • Why: A great addition to supplement either Boards and Beyond/Pathoma or in-house lectures
  • When: Most helpful for year 1/2 didactics and Step 1 studying. May also be used to review material during clerkships.

Question Banks

UWorld

  • What: One of the most well-known “gold standard” question bank in medical school.
  • Why: Has thousands of questions in NBME style to help you prepare for any standardized exam in medical school.
  • When: Definitely use during Step 1 and 2 studying in addition to rotation shelf exams. I didn’t personally use it during pre-clinical years, but it definitely would have helped on the earlier NBME exams.
  • Amboss

  • What: A newer, amazing resource that includes not only question banks, but also articles on every topic you’ll need to know with corresponding Osmosis Videos.
  • Why: A great resource for both learning and reviewing topics.
  • When: As soon as possible. Truly a resource I plan to keep for the remainder of med school because the articles and videos are so helpful!
